EastEnders fans have slammed the show for “copying” a rival soap with a new dramatic storyline.

Over in Walford at the moment, viewers have watched teenager Denzel Danes (Jaden Ladega) become fixated on body image. It all started when a bully Logan assaulted him, and ended up knocking over Yolande Trueman (Angela Wynter).

Humiliated he couldn’t help Yolande at the time, Denzel has since turned to boxing, with the help of George Knight (Colin Salmon). And over in the soap last week, his newfound obsession with exercise took hold.

After sharing a fitness video online, trolls mocked his appearance. He then came across a post about anabolic steroids – which ended up buying after lying to Yolande that he needed the money for a school trip.

The soap has recently confirmed that a storyline is taking place that will focus on Denzel’s use and dependency on anabolic steroids. As the heartbreaking storyline progresses, fans will see the teen attempt to hide his steroid use from those close to him and suffer in silence.

However, since news of the storyline broke, it seems some viewers are not too happy. So much so, they have claimed EastEnders is “copying” a fellow soap.

Soap watchers will recall how over in rival soap Coronation Street last year, Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) suffered from a steroid addiction. The character at the time was struggling since he had acid chucked on him during a horror attack at the Rovers.

Ryan was left with life-changing scars and has since found it difficult to accept how he looks. And in a dramatic turn of events, he turned to steroids and ended up injecting himself with illegal enhancement drugs.

Now, fans have pointed out how EastEnders has appeared to have “copied” Corrie over the steroid storyline. On X, formerly known as Twitter, one person said: “Yeah, didn’t Ryan do that in Coronation St? Get some new storylines.”

Someone else fumed: “Rinse and repeat storylines. Had a steroid story not that long ago.” Responding to a tweet about Denzel’s storyline on the soap, a third follower quipped: “It will prob be to do with the Denzel copy storyline I think it was Corrie.”

Another chimed in and added: “Sadly… what soap hasn’t had this storyline… cmon Enders you’re better than this…” A fifth wrote: “Yeah, didn’t Ryan do that in Coronation St? Get some new storylines.”
