EastEnders reveals massive Shirley Carter twist as Dean Wicks drops harrowing bombshell

EastEnders spoilers follow for Tuesday’s episode which is now available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

Dean Wicks (Matt Di Angelo) has dropped a huge bombshell following his return to the Square, leaving Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) absolutely heartbroken.

The rapist, who staged an unwelcome return on Monday, snuck into The Vic to corner Linda in the kitchen, in the exact spot where he assaulted her seven years ago.

In his years away from the Square, Dean has once again concocted a fictionalised version of events as, despite previously admitting that he raped Linda, the twisted villain now claims he’s innocent of the crime.

Linda, meanwhile, was terrified by his presence, demanding to know why he’s returned after all this time, with Dean confirming that he’s Cindy Beale’s (Michelle Collins) new business partner and that his daughter Jade is unwell.

The biggest shock, however, came moments later, with Dean confirming Linda’s fears when he revealed that he’s not only back in touch with Shirley (Linda Henry) but that he’s managed to convince her that he’s not a rapist.

Shirley, as viewers know, left the Square behind when she departed with Lady Di at Christmas, following the tragic disappearance of Mick (Danny Dyer).

Linda stayed in Walford but received a huge shock in February when she saw a picture of Shirley in the company of Dean, which led to some distance between her and her mum-in-law.

Could Dean be telling the truth about having manipulated Shirley into believing his lies?

Linda refused to believe his claims, but the rapist continued to drop the bombshells, revealing that Shirl struggled with her mental health following Mick’s vanishing, which suggested that he used her vulnerability to worm his way back in.

‘Someone had to step up and put her back together’, he said.

Linda, however, was still sceptical, asking what Shirl’s official diagnosis was, but Dean refused to answer her, proving evasive.

Dean became more and more intimidating, with Linda grabbing a knife and ordering him off the premises. Afterwards, she tried to make contact with Shirley, but the number was out of service.

Is Dean telling the truth? Has Shirley really turned her back on Linda? If so, can Linda track Shirley down and make her see sense?

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
